Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Deputy Head Librarian on a part-time, permanent basis to support the Head Librarian in day-to-day operations. The role requires working 30 hours per week on a shift pattern including Monday 9.30am-6.30pm, Tuesday 8.00am-5.00pm, Wednesday 2.00pm-7.00pm, and Thursday/Friday 8.00am-12.00am (4 hours each). This position is scheduled to commence in late September 2026 and works term-time plus an additional two weeks.
Duties:
- Support the day-to-day management of library services, ensuring efficient and user-focused operations.
- Assist in the procurement, management, evaluation, and cataloguing of physical and digital collections.
- Deliver and support information literacy training and provide specialist research support to students and staff.
- Line manage designated library staff and act as deputy for the Head Librarian in their absence.
Requirements:
- Experience of delivering frontline library services in an academic library or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and an excellent command of the English language.
- Excellent IT skills and the ability to deliver high standards of customer service under pressure.
- Experience of line management and staff supervision.
