Medical Laboratory Assistant

Location: Royal Sussex County Hospital, Eastern Rd, Brighton, BN2 5BE

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the microbiology team. This role mainly focuses on data entry to support the department in providing diagnostic services. Additional responsibilities include dealing with telephone enquiries, equipment maintenance, stock control, and laboratory waste disposal.

Duties:

• Undertake work according to Standard Operating Procedures
• Undertake routine maintenance and troubleshooting of general laboratory equipment
• Undertake preparatory work to support complex manual and automated analytical processes
• Check all samples before processing for identification, status and suitability for diagnostic investigations
• Undertake complex manual, semi-automated and automated procedures under indirect supervision
• Prepare samples for sending to external reference laboratories
• Receive and handle a wide range of enquiries, in person or by telephone

Requirements:

• GCSE C or above in Maths and English
• Existing right to work in the UK (this role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship)
• Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
