Part-Time Jobs in Brighton: What 300+ Local Vacancies Revealed

Finding a part-time job in Brighton can feel frustrating, especially when vacancies seem to disappear before you've even had a chance to apply.

Over the last 40 days, I tracked more than 300 part-time vacancies across Brighton & Hove by monitoring over 100 employer career pages and job boards twice a day through Brighton PartTimer.

Along the way, I noticed several patterns that could help job seekers improve their chances of getting noticed.

1. Tuesday Is the Best Day to Look for New Jobs

By far the busiest hiring period was Tuesday morning through to the afternoon.

A large percentage of new vacancies appeared during this window. If you're only checking job sites later in the week, you're often competing against applicants who discovered the role days earlier.

2. Large Retailers Often Close Applications Very Quickly

Some of the fastest-moving vacancies came from major retailers such as Tesco and Aldi.

In several cases, applications were no longer being accepted within six hours of the job appearing online. Waiting until the evening to apply can sometimes mean missing the opportunity entirely.

3. Entry-Level Roles Receive Immediate Interest

Jobs requiring little or no previous experience attract applicants almost instantly.

For some vacancies, Brighton PartTimer was sending 10 or more applicants to the employer within the first hour of the listing going live. When competition is high, being early can make a significant difference.

4. Some High-Street Brands Rarely Advertise Publicly

Brands such as Zara, Bershka, Pull&Bear, H&M and Ikea appear to fill many standard part-time positions through internal referrals, talent pools, and existing candidate databases rather than regularly advertising vacancies on their public careers pages.

For job seekers, this highlights the value of joining talent pools and networking whenever possible.

5. Many Jobs Are Effectively Filled Before They Expire

Just because a vacancy remains online does not mean applications are still being actively reviewed.

Many listings stay visible for seven days or longer, but employers often receive enough strong candidates within the first 24 hours. By the time some applicants discover the role, employers may already be arranging interviews.

Brighton Part-Time Job Market: 40-Day Snapshot

Here are a few interesting figures from the data:

  • Around 300 part-time vacancies were posted across Brighton & Hove over 40 days.
  • Hospitality was the most active sector.
  • Retail was the second most active sector.
  • Frequent recruiters included The Flour Pot Bakery, Trading Post Coffee Roasters, Wetherspoon, Co-op, Tesco, Boots, The Ivy Asia, NHS, and Sodexo.

The Biggest Lesson: Speed Matters More Than Most People Think

The clearest pattern from this data is that speed plays a major role in the hiring process.

Many applicants spend hours perfecting a CV before applying to a vacancy that has already been online for several days. In reality, applying quickly is often more valuable than making small improvements to an application.

A practical approach is:

  1. Keep your CV updated and ready to go.
  2. Apply as soon as a suitable vacancy appears.
  3. Don't become attached to any single application.
  4. Move on and continue applying.

Job searching is often a numbers game, and consistency usually beats perfection.
