Deputy Head Librarian
Location: Brighton, UK
Brighton College is seeking a Deputy Head Librarian to provide strategic and operational support to the Head Librarian, overseeing library services, staff, and collection management. The working pattern is 30 hours per week: Monday 9.30am - 6.30pm, Tuesday 8.00am - 5.00pm, Wednesday 2.00pm - 7.00pm, Thursday 8.00am - 12.00pm, and Friday 8.00am - 12.00pm, working term-time plus an additional two weeks.
Duties:
- Support day-to-day management of library services and study space.
- Act as deputy for the Head Librarian and line manage library staff.
- Assist in procurement, cataloguing, and management of physical and digital collections.
- Deliver information literacy training and provide research support to students and staff.
- Promote library services through activities, book groups, and trips.
Requirements:
- Experience delivering frontline library services in an academic library or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills, time management, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both alone and in a team.
- Strong IT skills and ability to deliver high standards of service under pressure.
- Experience of line management and staff supervision.
