Cleaning Operative

Location: Brighton College, Brighton & Hove, UK

Brighton College is seeking a Cleaning Operative on a part-time, permanent basis. The role involves maintaining a high standard of cleanliness across all assigned areas to provide a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The working schedule is Monday to Friday, from 4.00pm to 7.00pm.

Duties:

• Assisting with keeping designated areas clean, including hallways, floors, toilets, showers, and classrooms.
• Using cleaning equipment and materials safely, including diluting and using cleaning chemicals following COSHH regulations.
• Operating cleaning machinery in accordance with instructions and Health & Safety guidelines, keeping machinery in a safe condition, and reporting faults.
• Carrying out emergency cleaning as required, such as after accidents or sickness.
• Reporting defects, such as faulty plugs or fuses, to the supervisor.
• Taking appropriate Health & Safety precautions to ensure the safety of staff, pupils, and visitors.
• Responding to any other reasonable management requests.

Requirements:

• Physical fitness, encompassing the ability to bend, stretch, lean, reach, lift, and carry heavy or awkward items.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read and understand written instructions.
• Punctual, reliable, and trustworthy, with good time management skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• A polite, friendly, and helpful attitude, speaking confidently and courteously to parents, pupils, and staff.
• Awareness of health and safety procedures.
